Briаn, аge 5;6, hаs a hearing lоss and is in a general educatiоn kindergarten classrоom. Brian is reportedly performing below the level of his classroom peers. Rewrite the information shown below, from a recent evaluation, in a parent-friendly manner. Expand upon the information given (elaborate on what is stated) by including further explanation and/or examples so that parents/caregivers will have a clear understanding of these assessments, the results, and the recommendations: “Based on his aided audiogram, Brian’s hearing thresholds are 25 dB HL across the frequency spectrum. Even with his implants, however, Brian will have difficulty in environments with a poor signal-to-noise ratio. For this reason, I recommend hearing assistive technology for him while in school. Today we administered the APT-HI (Auditory Perception Test for the Hearing Impaired). Results indicate Brian has auditory awareness of speech and nonspeech sounds, durational, intensity and pitch cues, and suprasegmental information. Brian has deficits in discrimination and identification of segmental-level information, and only answered questions accurately in auditory-visual conditions. We also administered the PPVT (Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test). Brian received a standard score of 83, which is more than one standard deviation below the mean. His EVT (Expressive Vocabulary Test) standard score was 80, which is also more than one standard deviation below the mean. Brian received a standard score of 57 and a percentile rank of 2 on the GFTA. His substitution errors were /d/ for /g/, /z/ and /ð/, /t/ for /k/, /b/ for /v/, and /w/ for /l/ and /r/. He reduced clusters and omitted final /f/ and /l/. Additionally, distortions were noted with his production of fricatives."
