This questiоn is fоr grаduаte students оnly. Undergrаduates do not need to answer this question.  Recent papers we have read for this class include (1) Low-Decarie et al. 2014, which investigates how higher concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere can influence phytoplankton communities, (2) Elser et al. 2010, which investigates how the input of a nutrient (through atmospheric N deposition) can cause nutrient limitation for zooplankton consumers by altering the nutrient ratios within their food, (3) Simon et al. 2017, which investigates how trait variation within a species of guppy can cause different populations of the guppy to have different ecological impacts, and (4) Wilson et al. 2004, which investigates how an invasive crayfish species can change many aspects of a lake community even though a crayfish from the same genus was present in the lake prior to the invasion. Choose one of these papers and describe how it has changed or contributed to your understanding of freshwater ecology. Then apply the topic to a new situation: Imagine you are creating a management plan to conserve a diverse array of wetland species within a large natural area. How could this topic affect diversity in the wetlands? Are there particular aspects of diversity or types of species that would be most impacted? Would you take this into account in your management plan? Are there any steps you could take to change the effects?
