Reаding Selectiоn:   Fighting tо Prevent Viоlence? It sounds strаnge to sаy that organizing fights can prevent violence, but that is the idea behind the fighting club that Chris Wilmore organized in his backyard.  At this club, called StreetBeefs, two people who have a grudge or dispute between them can sign up to have a fight in the ring that Wilmore has set up in his backyard. The fights last for six minutes and are similar to mixed martial arts fights. The participants in the fight agree at the start that this fight will settle their issues with each other. Wilmore knows this sounds like a crazy way to reduce violence, but he believes that these fights will let people work out their anger with someone else in a controlled way. Wilmore has a criminal record and experience with street violence, so he knows that grudges between people can lead to more serious violence, like stabbing or shootings. But in one of his fights, a grudge could get resolved in a few minutes. Wilmore thinks that most of the time his approach works, and people who fight in his ring don’t get into future fights, but there is no way to know for sure. It’s possible that someone who loses badly in the organized fight might be angrier afterwords. The other problem with this approach is that everyone involved is still using violence to resolve their problems and disagreements.   Writing prompt: Do you think a program like StreetBeefs is a good idea? Please support and explain your position in a well developed essay.
