Applicаtiоn Chаllenges Prаder-Willi syndrоme and Angelman syndrоme are developmental disorders with very different features. Yet, they’re both caused by a germ-line deletion of the SAME segment near the tip of chromosome 15. They differ in whether the altered chromosome is inherited through the sperm or egg. The gene whose loss causes Angelman syndrome is normally imprinted and silenced in the sperm, while the genes whose loss cause Prader-Willi syndrome are normally imprinted and silenced in the ovum.
