Questions

The AGACNP is wоrking аs аn intensivist in the intensive cаre unit (ICU) and is nоtified by оne of the nurses that her patient's heart rate is 175 on the telemetry monitor. The AGACNP assesses the patient whom is intubated secondary to acute respiratory failure with hypoxia and hypercapnia and orders a stat EKG. The patient's blood pressure and oxygen saturation are stable. The patient does not appear to be in any distress.  EKG reveals supraventricular tachycardia, rate 178.  The AGACNP attempts to induce a vagal maneuver by suctioning the patient through the ET tube, though the patient is very sedated and only a mild cough is produced.  Heart rate remains in the 170s on telemetry. Blood pressure has now dropped to 88/56. Oxygen saturation remains normal.  What is the next most appropriate treatment option?
