These include diseases such as osteoporosis. Osteoporosis affects millions of people. Individuals with osteoporosis are at high risk of suffering one or more fractures. The body constantly absorbs and replaces bone tissue. With osteoporosis, however, new bone creation doesn't keep up with old bone removal. Many people have no symptoms until they have a bone fracture. This disease commonly occurs as a result of bone loss and deterioration of bone structure as people age but can also be due to a lifelong lack of calcium. Low calcium intake contributes to diminished bone density, early bone loss and an increased risk of fractures.
