Applied Criticаl Thinking Essаy: Guidаnce   Read the belоw carefully and intentiоnally then respоnd to the questions below. Chen is a 2 year old boy from China who recently moved with his mother to the United States over the summer.  Chen speaks little to no English.  When Chen arrives to the classroom he hides behind his mom’s legs and starts to cry.  The teacher walks up to him, kneels down, and says, “Ni hao!”  Chen peeks around his mom’s legs and reaches his arms up to the teacher and stays close to her the rest of the day.  During centers that day Chen was playing with some of his classmates.  Chen had a toy that he tried to give to his friend Mary.  When Mary did not take the toy, Chen angrily threw it to the ground, pushed Mary, and went to another center.  Earlier he had tried to climb a book shelf and threw himself to the ground crying when the teacher tried to redirect him to the safe climbing area.  Later, other children in the class moved quickly out of his way when he picked up the hammer to the tool set and started tapping his way around the classroom.  You can often find Chen in the block area lining up the blocks to create roads and train tracks.  In one instance, Jordan came and sat next to Chen carrying a truck and a train.  He gave Chen the train and the boys began to play on the pathways.  “Vroom!” roared Jordan as he moved his blue car back and forth.  “Choo!” Yelled Chen as he followed Jordan closely behind, smiling from ear to ear. Chen moves to the beat whenever music is played and often finds ways to “play along”.  During one of the class walks, Chen picked up a large branch that had fallen from a tree during the storm the day before.  Chen began to move the stick up by his ear with his eyes closed and say, “Da-da-deeeee.”  He opened his eyes and said, “Che.  Che.”  Chen’s father is a musician who had to return to China at the beginning of the year for work while Chen stayed with his mom.    Explain your overall guidance approach with this child. I should be able to see the vision from your description.  Include understanding of child development, basic guidance from 2610, details from practices taught in 4710, and concepts and practices from course readings, which align with your philosophy of practice.  Based on the information provided and the information you have developed in the previous part; please address how you will interact/work with this child's parents/family (be specific and remember you are building partnerships).

One truly knоws the depth оf understаnding оf а theory when one cаn effectively apply it to their life/current situations.  As an Early Childhood Educator, this understanding is critical.  Here is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your current ability in theory application.    Using two of the seminal developmental theories, apply them to self-regulation.  Your answer must address the following for each theory you chose:     Explain the theorist(s) view of self-regulation.     Discuss what this theorist says contributes to self-regulation based on their theory.     Describe what you will do as a teacher to support self-regulation based on this theory.
