In New Yоrk, sedаtiоn fоr every pet is а requirement by lаw in order to take radiographs on a patient.  Technicians are not allowed in the x-ray room when the radiograph is taken.  (this is how it is in human medicine as well) We know from our text that sedated animals will lay still for radiographs and this usually allows us to more quickly get accurate positioning and better radiographs are produced.  New York is trying to minimize radiation exposure for the staff of the hospital.  New York justifies the requirement as a human safety measure.  Do you think this is a good practice?  Do you think that this is necessary to protect the public?  What about for critical cases? California is often very progressive when it comes to making laws about safety for its residents.   Do you think that California should adopt this practice ? Why or why not.
