Ap Biology: Chapter 2

Organism – An individual living thing. Organ systems are organised into this.
What is the effect of alcohol on ADH production? – ADH is suppressed, so a large amount of dilute urine gets produced and more water leaves the body. This can lead to dehydration.
water displacement – used to measure the volume of an irregular object
enzyme – protein that acts as a biological catalyst, increases the rate of chemical reactions
hydrolysis – a chemical process that lyses, or splits, molecules by the addition of water, functioning in disassembly of polymers to monomers
Exergonic reaction – A spontaneous reaction that releases energy.
radiometric dating – Dating using decay of radioactive isotopes.
Deoxyrobose – five-carbon sugar which makes up part of the backbone of DNA
meiosis – cell division in which the chromosome number is reduced from the diploid to the haploid state
Fallopian tube (oviducts) – transport eggs to uterus
The term adrenopathy is defined as
gemmule – a cluster of cells encased in a hard. spicule-reinforced shell
Ammonium – NH4; a nitrogen-containing waste product of decomposition.
Nucleic acid – An organic compound, such as DNA or RNA, that is built of small units called nucleotides
The term аdrenоpаthy is defined аs
Muscle tissue – A body tissue that contracts or shortens, making body parts move.
cohesion – The intermolecular attraction between like molecules. Surface tension results from the cohesive properties of water
