Use the detаils in the fоllоwing cаse study tо аnswer question 4 Case Study: Attempted Homicide Angie Durwood had checked into a hotel room to avoid her husband, Miles, as they finalized their divorce proceedings. It had been an ugly process with Angie filing charges on him for battery. When the judge declared their marriage over, Miles turned abruptly and glared at his former wife, then stormed out of the courtroom. Angie stretched out on the bed, thinking that she would watch a movie on Netflix to help take her mind off of the stressful day.  But first, she decided to go down the hall to the vending machine for a soda and some chips. Closing the hotel room door behind her, she realized she didn’t have the room key, so she slipped off one of her shoes, wedging it in the door just keeping it slightly open. Moments later, she returned with her snacks, and reclaimed her spot on the bed to begin the movie. She almost thought she smelled her ex-husband’s cologne. Too tired to watch the movie, she got up to get an extra blanket from the closet before settling in to go to sleep. As she reached up to retrieve the blanket from the top shelf, she sensed someone behind her. Before she could turn around, she found herself trapped in the corner of the closet as a sharp pain seared through the left side of her body. Angie grabbed at her side and could feel the warmth of her own blood flow over her hands. She whirled around to see it was Miles! Angie pushed hard at Miles trying to keep him away from her, wiping her own blood on the front of his shirt, as Miles stabbed her again. Trying to focus, she saw he was holding something over her head. It looked like a knife, but she couldn’t really tell. Whatever it was, it had her blood on it. Seeing the Coke bottle on the nightstand, she grabbed it and smashed it against the wall behind her and in one swift move she slashed Miles’ arm. The broken end of the bottle tore through his flesh. He jerked his arm back in pain, loosening his grip and the object fell from his hand onto the bed. He was bleeding; he was scared, and he had to get out of the room. Passing the bed, Miles grabbed whatever he had dropped, leaving a faint bloody outline of the object on the bedcover. Using his left hand to cover the wound on his right arm, he could feel the blood pulsating beneath. Briefly he let go and wildly grabbed at the door as he made is escape. Blood from his arm spurted onto the interior side of the door. The door slammed open, banging against the wall. He ran down the hallway passing the housekeeper’s utility cart. Angie was losing blood fast. She tried to navigate the room, grabbing at her side and realized she was standing in a pool of her own blood. She stumbled, clutching at the bedspread trying to reach the phone. She picked up the receiver, and just as the operator spoke, she passed out, her body slumping against the wall, where she lay, unconscious but alive, until help would arrive. Miles, now in his car, tossed a pair of bloody scissors onto the back seat and wiped his bloody hands on a towel he had grabbed from the housekeeper’s cart. After wrapping the towel around his bleeding arm as a makeshift tourniquet, he drove off erratically, the pain in his right arm hindering him from steering well. Before long, his car came to a screeching halt; the front-end making contact with a large willow tree. A haze of red and blue lights washed over Miles’ vision as he heard a voice blare over the loudspeaker. In a panic, he grabbed the bloody scissors and tried to stuff them in the space where the center console meets with the edge of one of the rear seats. When Miles Durwood was arrested, he had blood all over the front of his shirt. Note: There are several elements involving bloodstain pattern analysis in this case as well as two scenes to process: the hotel room and the vehicle Miles Durwood was driving. Now use this information to answer question 4. Describe how you would process these crime scenes (looking at each scene separately), including any tests or processes you would use to record the scene and locate evidence. List which items of evidence you would collect from both these scenes and your rationale for doing so. Describe how you would package the evidence and why. Finally describe the types of blood spatter patterns you would expect to see at both scenes and why you would expect to see such patterns.
