Anode definition – is an electrode at which oxidation occurs. It is the negative terminal of a galvanic cell.
endothermic – describes a process in which heat is absorbed from the environment.
Photosynthesis – A chemical reaction that happens in green plants using the energy in sunlight. The plant takes in water and carbon dioxide, and uses sunlight to convert them to glucose and oxygen.
If I tell you we are having a lab tomorrow what should you do tonight? – Read over all prelab information and procedures so you will be familiar with what is going on during lab.
Intermolecular force – Attractive force between neighbouring molecules.
A volatile liquid – evaporates readily
nucleus – an atom's central region, which is made up of protons and neutrons.
Lone Pair – Pair of electrons in the outer shell of an atom not involved in bonding
The randomness or disorder of particles is called _____. – Entropy
Catalysts increase a reation rate by
What is Group 1 on the Periodic Table? – The alkali metals- a group of 6 metals (lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium). The density increases the further down the group you go, and the melting/boiling points decrease. They all have one electron on the outer shell, and the reactivity increases the further down the group you go- the further the outer shell from the nucleus, the weaker the force of attraction between them, and the easier it is for the electron to be lost.
Decomposition Reaction – reactants are broken down into smaller, less complex products; glucose + fructose —> sucrose
product – A substance that forms in a chemical reaction.
How do the earth's plates move? – By convection currents.
strong electrolyte – an electrolyte that exists in a solution almost entirely as ions (most ionic substances)
Cаtаlysts increаse a reatiоn rate by
ground state configuration of copper (Cu) – [Ar] 4s1 3d10
Atomic number – Equals the number of protons in the nucleus (never changes)
