Tofino is frisky during the exam, chasing the stethoscope and playing with the veterinarian's pen. Before giving his vaccinations, venipuncture is performed so an FeLV/FIV Snap test can be done. Tofino turns up positive for FeLV Ag and negative FIV Ab. Because Tofino shows no signs of the disease, additional blood is drawn and sent to a reference lab for an IFA. The IFA can detect intracellular Ags, whereas the Snap test can only detect the Ags circulating freely in the blood. The IFA comes out negative for FeLV Ag. When seen 8–12 weeks later, another Snap test is done and still comes out positive for FeLV Ag. Tofino is still acting fine. What is Tofino?
