During repeated high-intensity sprint work (e.g. team sports or HIIT sessions) we see ventilation responds rapidly to changes in intensity. When a work bout begins, ventilation increases rapidly. When a work bout ends, ventilation decreases rapidly (within 1-2 seconds). Explain how and why ventilation can respond so quickly to changes in effort.
