Essаys (Select оne. Yоu cаnnоt аnswer the same prompt twice.)  An essay is not a short answer. An essay is not a paragraph. An essay is a collection of coherent paragraphs with a clear introduction, supporting sections, and a conclusion.    What are the defining features of a fascist state in terms of A) structure and B) messaging?   There are lots of ways to build a state. There are lots of ways to build a democratic state.  A) What is the strength and weakness of staggering election cycles? Ex. Two years for the House of Representatives, four for the Presidency, and six for the Senate.  For clarity, this is a deliberate choice that is made. What is it supposed to do that, arguably, is better than having elections for every office at the same time. B) The US has staggered elections. Which branch of the US government, if any, can claim to be the most democratically legitimate based on the election cycle? Why?   “I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new empire.” – Anakin Skywalker Non-Democratic systems repeatedly stress the argument that democracy is inefficient, decadent, selfish, and far too complicated. In place of this (perceived) messiness, they (claim to) offer effective streamlined governance. In class we discussed the idea of an authoritarian social contract. A) What do these oppressive systems offer the public, to keep them content, most of the time, shy of coercive force? B) What are ways that non-democratic systems convince their opposition to join them? C) If you were ruler of a non-democratic state what do you think the best way to keep people in line would be?
