The Dean of Students Office records acts of dishonesty and notifies the School of Nursing of each incident. In addition to all of the University statements and policies relative to academic dishonesty, the School of Nursing recognizes the strong link between honesty in academic work and professional integrity. Any act of academic dishonesty, including fabrication of reports or records of interactions with clients, is considered incompatible with ethical standards of nursing practice. The School of Nursing does not admit students who have a record of violations to the professional course sequence. Students who engage in scholastic dishonesty may be subject to dismissal and may jeopardize their eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse. Any unauthorized copying of the class materials is a violation of federal law and may result in disciplinary actions being taken against the student. It requires nurses ‘to create an ethical environment and culture of civility and kindness, treating colleagues, coworkers, employees, students, and others with dignity and respect’ and states that ‘any form of bullying, harassment, intimidation, manipulation, threats, or violence will not be tolerated.’ The environment and Moral Virtue: Virtues are universal, learned, and habituated attributes of moral character that predispose persons to meet their moral obligations; that is, to do what is right… Certain particular attributes of moral character might not be expected of everyone but are expected of nurses.
