Pаtriciа аnd Diana are pоlitical оppоnents.  They are among five candidates running for mayor.   One day, Diana came across a news story about Patricia that was posted on the Internet.  In this article, it was stated that Patricia had once been imprisoned for fraud.  This article had been written over ten years ago. Diana then sent this text to Campaign Manager:      "Let's get the word out that my Harvard-educated opponent was once imprisoned for fraud."  After receiving this text, Campaign Manager arranged a press conference to publicize this information about Patricia.  Campaign Manager understood that Diana's text referred to Patricia because Patricia was the only candidate who had attended Harvard.  At this press conference, Campaign Manager stated to the reporters in attendance:      "This fine city should be made aware that Diana's Harvard-educated opponent was once imprisoned for fraud."   A reporter attending the press conference asked if this statement referred to Patricia, as she was the only candidate who had attended Harvard.  Another reporter then asked if Campaign Manager was aware that the article claiming Patricia had once been imprisoned for fraud had been proven to be false many years ago.  To each of these questions, Campaign Manager responded, "No comment."  Immediately after the press conference was over, Campaign Manager went online to research Diana's claim.  Campaign Manager soon discovered that the article that had been written about Patricia had been proven to be false many years ago.  Campaign Manager then notified the reporters who had attended the press conference that she was retracting the statement she had made.  However, many reporters had already published the claim Campaign Manager had made. Does Patricia have a valid claim against Campaign Manager and Diana?  Discuss.

Cоnsider twо lоng strаight current-cаrrying pаrallel wires, shown in Fig. 3.1. One wire carries a current of I 1 = 1 . 50   A in negative z direction; the other wire carries a current of I 2 = 3 . 60   A in negative z direction. (a) Find the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field at point A. (b) Find the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field at point B. (c) If a long, straight current-carrying wire of current I 3 = 2 . 00   A is placed at B and the direction of the current in this wire is in positive z direction, what are the magnitude and direction of the net force per unit length on this wire? (d) If an electron passing point B is moving in positive z direction with a speed v → = 2 . 00 × 10 7   m / s , what are the magnitude and direction of the magnetic force on the electron? (The charge of an electron is - 1 . 60 × 10 - 19   C .) (e) If a single current-carrying loop of radius R = 2 . 00   c m is placed on y z surface with its center at O , as shown in Fig. 3.2, what is the magnitude and direction of the current in the loop if the magnetic field at its center is zero? fig_q13_t2.jpg
